  • Creating knowledge from diabetes data

Our co-founder and CMO, Professor Per-Ola Carlsson, is a leading researcher in the field of type 1 diabetes. His cutting-edge research explores the potential of genetically modified, hypoimmune insulin-producing cells from the Islets of Langerhans as a cure for type 1 diabetes. Here is what he has to say about his research:

“We’ve demonstrated that genetically modified islet cells can safely survive and produce insulin in people with type 1 diabetes-without the need for immunosuppression. These early results are a major step in our research for a cure.”

While the search for a cure continues, Professor Carlsson is also dedicated to improving healthcare:

“My long-term goal is to be able to bring a cure for type 1 diabetes but in the meantime, I strive to improve the clinical management of diabetes and daily life for everyone living with diabetes by developing digital solutions that can automate the interpretation of diabetes data.”
